Florida shooting: Will this carnage continue?

If you have ever heard the rattling sound of a semi automatic rifle, you can know two things. One- the bullet hasn’t hit you yet and two, you will have known fright that may take years to heal especially in a precarious scnenario. The unfortunate events of the Florida shooting came as no surprise to me. With the death toll at 17 and a couple more injured, this suffices to draw the attention of all public health experts who have been clamouring for stricter gun controls. I do not want to oppose the right to bear arms. What should be done here is to make the measures of accesssing guns more stringent and in line with current research on their safety for possession.

On the brighter side of all this chaos though, we have something to celebrate or rather someone we can call a hero -Peter Wang as the BBC reported. He was quickly admitted into the 2025 West Point military school posthumously. It is sad that we lose such a brave man to the mad frenzy of a wild gun slinger but in the midst of all this, one thing is clear-Heros are always found where they are needed the most at the right time. As we continue to battle with gun related deaths in the United States, I wish that the US would borrow a leaf from countries such as Switzerland and how they are handling the guns in their possession. Thanks for reading.
